2011 Fund Drive
Friends,
The members of the Faber Volunteer Fire Department stand ready 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year to respond to the needs of our community. We leave our jobs, our families, and our friends at a moment’s notice because we are committed to serving you! We respond in the summer heat, the winter cold, the spring rains, and the slick snow whether it’s mid-day or midnight because we are committed to serving our community. The countless hours our members serve each year are completely voluntary. The time and resources we devote, we do so willingly, serving those in distress during their time of need.
Each year, we come to you, members of our community, to ask you to help us. Our aging equipment requires that we stay on top of maintenance so it functions when you need it. Six of our seven trucks are over 20 years old with our newest truck not far behind at 17 years old. We have had an expensive year making several needed repairs on our trucks to keep them in service and ready to respond. In addition, we have been faced with added maintenance costs on our extrication tools, our “Jaws of Life”.
In addition to maintenance costs, we are, unfortunately, finding that some of our aging extrication equipment is not keeping up with the latest in vehicle technology. We are learning that more vehicles are being manufactured with high strength steel reinforcements which provide increased protection for its occupants. While these added reinforcements help protect the occupants, they also make it more difficult for us to cut through during car accidents where every second counts. Because of this, we are being forced to investigate the purchase of new high pressure extrication tools capable of cutting through even the toughest metals. The added capability, however, comes with a price tag of close to $40,000. We know that is a hefty price to pay, but we feel it is worth it if these tools will help us save just one life… one man, one woman, or one child.
We also realize that times are tight in this economy for each of you and the increase in gas prices is having a direct impact on your household budgets as it is ours. With gas prices pushing the $4.00 per gallon mark and possibly going higher, your dollars are being stretched like never before. This, however, is the one time each year that we set aside to ask for your help. This is the one time we call upon you to come to our aid by sending a donation to help us stand ready, whatever the time, whatever the weather, to serve you.
We don’t take asking for donations lightly. Every dollar we spend, we do so making sure we are being good stewards of the funds you have entrusted to us. We are careful to make sure our expenses are necessary and will be beneficial to those we serve.
As always, we are proud to serve our community and we do so voluntarily. We thank you for your support and we thank you for allowing us to serve you over the past 55 years.

Sincerely,
Michael King, President Eddie Embrey, Chief
